Gillespie, IL


Gillespie, Illinois, located at the junction of Routes 4 & 16 in Macoupin County offers small-town living a short drive from St. Louis.  With a population of less than 4,000 according to the 2000 Census Bureau, Gillespie has strong coal mining roots which is celebrated each year with it's annual Black Diamond Days Festival.

Gillespie provides recreational opportunities at it's two local parks, Big Brick Park and Welfare Park.  The community offers a Public Library and education for students in Preschool through High School. The local police department has implemented the Neighborhood Watch program, an effort by the community to keep Gillespie a safe place to live and play.
